Composite Tooling

Pattern/Plugs

Patterns/plugs are produced with 5-axis machined surfaces to ensure accuracy. Bayview composites offers numerous construction methods allowing customers to optimize performance and cost relationships.

   Typical Pattern/Plug Features:
› Dimensionally stable wood base structure
› Fiberglass composite reinforcement
› Polyester tooling paste machined surface
› Finishing and surface treatments to order
   Additional Pattern/Plug Materials:
› High Temperature Epoxy Tooling Paste
› Polyurethane Foam Billet
› Polystyrene Foam Billet
› Plywood Cross Section Kits
› Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF)
   Finishing:
› High quality finishes available
› Industry leading surfacing materials
› Finish to specific grit levels
› RMS requirements are documented

Direct Tooling/Molds

Direct tools/molds are a cost effective solution for projects requiring short run production of only a few parts. A direct tool is very similar in construction to a pattern/plug but we take further steps to stabilize the final machined tooling surface.

Production Tooling/Molds

Production tools or long run molds are durable investments that produce high quality parts for hundreds of cycles or more. We manufacture tooling for open molding, resin infusion, LRTM and prepreg oven cure processes.

   Typical Production Mold Features:
› Tooling gelcoat surface
› Hand laid structural face sheets
› Fiberglass/Tooling Resin Composite
› Steel tube support structure
   High Temperature Tooling features:
› Single Vacuum infused tooling face sheets
› Fiberglass/Epoxy or Carbon Fiber/Epoxy
› Matched CTE support structures
   Production tooling options:
› Integrated electric heating systems
› Integrated vacuum ports
› Hydraulic, manual mold turning systems
› Hydraulic, manual clamping systems
› Dimensional tolerance scan reports
› Finite Element Analysis (FEA) verification
› On site commissioning
